Russian River Steelhead
Russian River Dec.18th 1995, 11.5lbs hatchery Steelhead in this photo. Steelhead are in the river as early as October and as late as the end of March. The largest part of the run depends of the weather due to heavy run off and water clarity. Hatchery fish make up a large percentage of the fish caught on the Russian. But there is a good population of wild fish still spawning in the hundreds of tributaries in the watershed. Bait, plug and flies are all successful techniques on this river. Fishing from a 16-ft. driftboat allows the angler to be comfortable and get to waters not accessible to bank fishermen. The Russian is as close to a guarantee of Steelhead caught for an angler in California.
